ASL COURSE LEVEL 1A
BEGINNER
This introductory course is tailor-made for individuals with zero to moderate experience in sign language. It is the first of a two beginner’s courses, dedicated to establishing a strong foundation in American Sign Language (ASL). The course is entirely conducted online with a ‘voice off’ approach, encompassing essential aspects such as ASL grammar structure, the alphabet, numbers, ASL parameters, colors, family, friendships, pets, relationship terms, LGBTQ+-related vocabulary, living arrangements, and transportation. By the course’s conclusion, participants will have acquired the ability to comprehend ASL grammar, while honing their receptive and expressive signing skills.
ASL COURSE LEVEL 1B
BEGINNER
This course is the second of two beginner’s courses and focuses on employing acquired vocabulary to facilitate conversations and discussions, utilizing ASL grammar and structure. The class maintains a ‘voice off’ approach throughout its duration. The subjects covered encompass a range of practical areas, including employment status, significant life events, providing directions, places around town, daily errands, time expressions, seasons, and leisure activities. Completion of ASL 1A or an equivalent course is a prerequisite for enrollment. By the course’s culmination, participants will have gained the proficiency to engage in basic ASL conversations and comprehend straightforward sentences.
ASL COURSE LEVEL 2
INTERMEDIATE
This course is designed for students who have completed ASL 1A and 1B, or equivalent courses, and continues with our immersive ‘voice off’ approach to learning. The curriculum aims to expand vocabulary and utilize it for crafting intricate conversations and in-depth discussions, grounded in ASL grammar and structure. Covering an array of subjects such as classifiers, describing physical attributes, hobbies, leisure activities, vacations, and states, the course is structured to bolster your fluency. By the end of the course, you will be equipped to communicate in ASL with greater confidence and understanding, paving the way for more advanced proficiency.
ASL COURSE LEVEL 3
INTERMEDIATE
This advanced course is tailored for people who have completed ASL 1A, 1B, and Level 2, or who have equivalent signing experience. Upholding the ‘voice off’ policy to foster a fully immersive learning environment, the course intensively focuses on the practical application of an expanded ASL vocabulary in constructing dialogues and discussions. Coursework delves into food, dining, and financial transactions, enabling them to communicate effectively about meal components, cooking methods, restaurant experiences, and handling payments. Students will emerge from the course with enhanced vocabulary and the ability to form and understand complex ASL sentences, thereby achieving a higher level of fluency in ASL communication.
ASL COURSE LEVEL 4
ADVANCED
This course is designed for advanced students who have completed ASL 1A, 1B, 2, and 3 or similar coursework. It is conducted completely ‘voice off,’ and it focuses on using learned vocabulary to create conversations and discussions using ASL grammar and structure. The topics covered include home layouts, household items, furniture, housework, repairs, finances, and major purchases. By the end of the course, students will have a broad vocabulary and be able to understand and communicate in more complex conversations and discussions using ASL grammar and structure.
