Wow, I definitely struggled with the full speed initial watch. Very humbling. I caught a lot of random words, but wasn’t able to put much together. I slowed it down to 75% speed, and suddenly a lot more jumped out at me. I still couldn’t grasp the fingerspelling, but there were chunks that started making some sense. I was able to catch the HIT conjunction towards the beginning, though I didn’t really get what it was in relation to until I slowed down to 50% speed. The fingerspelling started coming into focus for me at 50% speed, but I still had to watch some of it multiple times, and I never did get “Spartan” until I added captions.
It was great to see his expressions and NMMs and things like that. Definitely a good reminder to not forget about the facial parts of signing.
Side note, are there any other dyslexics out there in our cohort who feel like their brains are glitching with fingerspelling? In some ways, it feels like learning to read all over again.
