Ahh, finally! access to this 🙂 yay. For some reason my log in and password didn’t work. But I finally found the direct link to this and was able to view the information and video. It’s the fingerspelling of words that are not an every day item in my day to day communication that gives me the most trouble. I just don’t see them. They are a blur. All the practice in the world will not help seeing a word I am not familiar with. AND its applying English sentences to the message, the spoken translation. I am able to see and understand signs. But to put them in a voice translation that sounds acceptable to other English speakers not so much. If I was interpreting I would be able to pick out the topic and message, but to formulate the English translation would be choppy and misrepresent the Deaf consumer. So, my brother is Deaf and I understand him completely when we talk. But I am not interpreting for him. My understanding is based on my experiences and paradigm of the world and this can skew the personality of the consumer. This is my struggle.
